You can't have hopes and dreams, what if you're disappointed if they don't come true...

For most people, when you're a child you are encouraged to have hopes and dreams. Even into adulthood we're encouraged to think about our hopes for the future, what do we want out of life - what direction do we want our careers to go in?
It's pretty standard.
However. When it comes to birth it's not quite so accepted to have ambition, to make plans to aim towards. This is weird.
Likely a hangover from the joys of the historical approach to women's autonomy over their minds and bodies this can have a huge impact on what we allow ourselves when it comes to preparing to meet our babies.
It's so common to hear "well, its out of my control so I'll see what happens and roll with it", or "it'll happen how it happens so I'll just get through it" or my favourite "birth is a necessary evil".
In many cases this can lead to being poorly prepared, poorly informed and feeling out of control on the day. This is why I am a hypnobirthing teacher, I feel passionate about helping people avoid this as much as possible and supporting birth teams to feel educated, informed and positive about the day they meet their new person
From a well informed position there's no harm in being idealistic. To know your preferences. To imagine the day you meet your baby with joy. What a wonderful feeling and super power that is.
Like many things in life its ok to have expectations, dreams and plans and for those to not quite work out how you planned. Like anything in life you know it's not a dead cert!
Trust yourself, educate yourself and allow yourself the joy of creating the image of birth that you want from now on.
I can help you do this and bust some birthing myths in my hypnobirthing and antenatal courses. I've just launched booking for December 2024 and Feb 2025. Check out the links above.
